PHOENIX — Local man Devon Rusk expressed shock Saturday when a bookshelf he assembled without consulting the instructions behaved exactly as the instructions warned it would.

Rusk had described the unopened manual as “mostly legal stuff” before attaching two shelves backward and classifying six leftover screws as extras.

A mysterious collapse

The structure remained upright for nine seconds, a period Rusk called “proof the design basically worked.”

He has contacted customer support to report a manufacturing defect.
